Female LionsA recent safari to Savuti was a real surprise! Although the bulk of the zebra migration had already passed through, sizable groups of stragglers kept appearing and congregating. This was not lost on the resident lions who spread themselves over the usual pathways to the pans. Two separate groups of cheetah were seen on the western marsh road; one pair feeding hurriedly on a freshly killed impala as vultures zeroed in from above. As they finished, we were treated to a shuffling, squawking, feathered frenzy, that reduced what was left to bare bones in a matter of minutes. The larger pans are still very full and the grass lush which augurs well for an extended period of excellent game viewing.

Spring BokDeception Valley remains a fantastic area for viewing a desert area with its rich variety of fauna and flora. Deserts bloom when it rains and the past heavy rainy season has raised the ecology there to optimum levels. Oryx, eland, springbok, lion cheetah......are all there as well as a wide variety of birdlife, raptors in particular. Lion called at night on Deception Pan and for some reason (good grazing, rich vegetation etc ?) this pan had more animals than most of the other areas. As one descended down onto the pan - the horizon was dotted with the above mentioned animals in all directions. Red hartebeest stood proud amongst the oryx and cheetah welcomed the tourists by jumping on the bonnet of the vehicle as they do in Kenya and other places.

Okavango Delta

The flood from Angola which brings our annual water to the Okavango Delta continues to rise as we speak, which is unusual for this time of the year. We are continually driving around flood plains that were dry last week and now are full of water fowl. Ducks and geese, waders and storks, plovers and cranes are all seen in a world of birds that are enjoying the rich grass seed growing in the flooded areas. Join us on safari for a life time experience of nature in all it's natural beauty, born wild and living free.

See you soon - Lloyd and Daphne.
