| Botswana
is the least densely populated country in the world,
with a population of 1.8 million in a country the
size of France. Most of this vast area is uninhabited.
More than 20% of Botswana is devoted to wildlife
and conservation. Botswana, including the Chobe
area has the most diverse ecosystem in the world.
The country has up to 600 species of birds and all
of the Southern Africa region’s big game species
can be found here.
Botswana is a unique experience that will enrich
any visitor’s life. This landlocked country
which is largely semi- arid desert has in its heart
the unique Okavango Delta – recently declared
a World Heritage Site. This is where the mighty
Okavango River flows not into the sea but into the
Kalahari sands, creating an ecosystem that is life-enriching
in its diversity and wonder.
Botswana people are friendly and welcoming. If
you have time in Maun visit the excellent curio
shops and the small museum that reflects the history
of the town area.
THE
OKAVANGO DELTA
The Okavango Delta is one of the richest wildlife
habitats in the world. Covering an area of around
10000 sqkms under normal flooding, it has stunning
scenery and a wide diversity of wildlife and habitat.
Water is life and as such supports wide floodplains
of swamp grasses, palm belts, riverine forest, etc..
This in turn provides the habitat and food for an
incredible variety of wildlife - virtually all the
species found in southern Africa. Birdlife is prolific.
The lily-covered lagoons, crystal streams and quiet
backwaters contain a wide variety of fishes. There
are few wetlands in the world that compare.
